History

Built in 1949 as a rental apartment building, the Saxony became a cooperative in 1984 when tenants were dissatisfied with the management's maintenance efforts. Apartment owners are members in the cooperative and elect a Board of Directors to manage it. While some units are rented, the majority are owner-occupied. Apartments can only be sold to people who will live in them.

Like Adams Morgan, the Saxony is home to a diverse community of people. Newcomers move in monthly, while some residents have lived in the building for 30 and 40 years. Our residents include retirees, federal employees and contractors, artists and students. They represent different races, ethnicities, nationalities, religious beliefs and sexual orientations.

Along with the District of Columbia, we are enjoying a 21st century renaissance. Recent improvements include a roof deck with expansive city views, new laundry machines and interior and exterior renovations. Other amenities include a front desk staffed 24 hours a day, indoor parking, and a bicycle storage room.
